For this ring, it all started earlier this summer when Gemmologist Nicholas Appleby sourced a remarkable natural orange sapphire. Gemstones of this quality are exceptionally rare, and he was drawn to its vivid orange hue, fire and exceptional brilliance.
Designing Around the Gemstone
Unlike mass-produced jewellery, where a design often exists before the gemstone is selected, our process works the other way around. Every exceptional gemstone has its own proportions, personality and way of interacting with light.
Once the sapphire arrived in our Dublin workshop, the design journey began.
Every design decision started with the gemstone itself. Before a single sketch was drawn, our design team spent time studying its proportions, depth, brilliance and personality.
After exploring different possibilities, the workshop chose a classic trilogy design. Two carefully matched natural oval diamonds were selected to accompany the centre stone, creating balance while allowing the sapphire to remain the unmistakable focal point.

Every stage was completed by hand, from creating the setting to shaping each claw that holds the gemstones securely in place.
