Wedding Ring Buying Guide

Choosing your wedding rings is one of the most meaningful steps in your journey to “I do.” At Appleby Jewellers, we’ve helped generations of couples find or create the perfect wedding bands — timeless symbols of love, partnership, and forever.

Whether you’re looking for a classic gold band, a diamond-set wedding ring, or something uniquely personal, our team is here to guide you every step of the way. This buyer’s guide will help you navigate your options and feel confident in your choice.

When to Choose Your Ring?

Plan to select your wedding rings as soon as you set a wedding date. Crafting your ring typically takes 4–6 weeks, but complex designs may require up to 2 months. Allowing ample time ensures your rings will be ready for your big day.

Choosing the Perfect Ring

We offer wedding rings that are designed to perfectly match or fit around your engagement ring — including custom-shaped bands for more intricate settings.

For many couples, the wedding ring is chosen to sit beautifully alongside the engagement ring. At Appleby Jewellers, we specialise in wedding rings designed to match our engagement ring styles, ensuring perfect harmony. We also create custom-fit wedding bands shaped to complement unique designs.

For example: A solitaire with side diamonds pairs beautifully with a diamond-set band. A diamond solitaire looks elegant with a simple band or a diamond-set style.

Metal Choice

Your metal choice affects the overall look, durability, and price of the ring.

When selecting a wedding ring, it’s important to consider both style and substance. Matching the metal of your wedding band to your engagement ring is recommended — not only for a harmonious look, but to avoid uneven wear over time. For example, an 18ct yellow gold engagement ring pairs best with an 18ct yellow gold wedding ring.

Our experienced team will walk you through the pros and cons of each metal and help you decide whether to match your engagement ring, coordinate with your partner’s, or choose something that reflects your own personal style.

For the Groom

Men’s wedding rings are often chosen for their simplicity, strength, and timeless appeal. A classic band in 18ct yellow gold or platinum remains a reliable and sophisticated choice that never goes out of style.

For those seeking something a little more distinctive, there are a number of contemporary options available. A beveled or matte finish can offer a modern twist, while a two-tone design adds subtle contrast and individuality. Custom embellishments — such as personal engraving and textured details — allow you to create a ring that’s truly your own.

We will work with you to find a ring that reflects your personality, suits your lifestyle, and feels just right from the very first fitting.

A Legacy Of Craftsmanship & Care

Our story began in 1950s Dublin, in the warmth of the Appleby family home, where Margaret Appleby, Ireland’s first female diamond setter, began handcrafting beautiful, personal pieces of jewellery for a small circle of discerning customers.

From the very beginning, Margaret’s focus was on quality, craftsmanship, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail — values that would become the foundation of the Appleby name.

By the late 1950s, she and her husband John opened their first shop on Johnson’s Court, just off Grafton Street — the very location where Appleby’s flagship store still stands today. Today, that tradition is proudly carried forward by the second and third generation of the Appleby family with the same same dedication to excellence, integrity, and warm, personal service.

Over the decades, Appleby Jewellers has remained a trusted name in Irish jewellery — a place where customers know they’ll receive the very best in quality, value, and care.
